A majority of Americans, 56%, favor a ban on smoking in public places. This is in line with a Gallup poll that has been keeping records since 2011. By contrast, until 2008, Gallup found most Americans were opposed to a smoking ban in public places, with as few as 31% in favor of such anti-smoking legislation.
Utah has the lowest percentage of adults who smoke, but one of the highest per capita consumptions; this implies that very few people smoke, but those who do average more than a pack a day.
While banned smoking has been put into effect to protect the health of those with respiratory conditions as well as to protect the health of the general population, it can still feel threatening if you are a smoker.
